Nine years
of going up.

"Stonks" is internet shorthand for irrational confidence, questionable trades and watching a chart go up. The image is Meme Man in a suit in front of a green ticker, and the misspelling is the whole point: it's stocks, but dumber and more sure of itself.

It outlived the forums that made it, became the default reaction image of the 2021 retail-trading boom, and in 2026 got what every meme eventually gets: a token. STONKS launched on Robinhood Chain, the first chain built for Wall Street, and paired with the market itself.

Then the team walked. The holders didn't. That's the part of the lore this site exists to write.

2017Meme Man in a suit first posted with the "stonks" caption.
2019Goes fully mainstream; becomes the reaction image for every bad trade on the internet.
2020Elon Musk posts "Stonks." His domain stankmemes.com shows the Stonks picture and nothing else.

The meme has the biggest co-sign on the internet, and the venue put STONKS on the S&P 500 ETF on purpose. Neither of those is a community claim; both are screenshots.
